Craig L. Israelsen, Ph.D.

Craig Israelsen photo  Craig L. Israelsen, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in the School of Family Life at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah where he teaches Personal and Family Finance. He holds a Ph.D. in Family Resource Management from Brigham Young University. He received a B.S. in Agribusiness and a M.S. in Agricultural Economics from Utah State University. Prior to teaching at BYU, he was on the faculty of the University of Missouri-Columbia for 14 years, where he taught Personal and Family Finance in the Personal Financial Planning Department.

Primary among his research interests is the analysis of investment products, particularly mutual funds. He writes monthly for Financial Planning magazine and www.horsesmouth.com. His research has also been published in Journal of Indexes, Journal of Financial Planning, and Journal of Asset Management. He is the author of the 7Twelve Portfolio (www.7TwelvePortfolio.com).

He is married to Tamara Trimble. They have seven children. Hobbies include swimming, biking, running, and woodworking.

Joseph C. Nagengast

Joe Nagengast photo  Joseph C. Nagengast is president of Turnstone Advisory Group LLC, a firm founded to bring the best principles, strategies and efficiencies of institutional investing to a broader group of investors. For over 20 years, he has consulted clients on issues of institutional investing, fiduciary compliance and retirement plans and policies.

He is a Certified Employee Benefits Specialist, a past president of the Los Angeles Chapter of ISCEBS and a member of the Western Pension & Benefits Conference. He is widely quoted in investment publications and is a regular speaker and writer on topics related to retirement plans and institutional investments. Joe has directed each of the Popping the Hood studies of target date fund families, including Target Date Analytics' new release of Popping the Hood III.

Ronald J. Surz

  Ronald J. Surz is president of PPCA, Inc. and principal of RCG LLP. He is a pension consulting veteran, having started with A.G. Becker in the 1970's. Ron earned an MBA in Finance at the University of Chicago and an MS in Applied Mathematics at the University of Illinois, and holds a CIMA (Certified Investment Management Analyst) designation.

He has published regularly in such publications as The Journal of Wealth Management, The Journal of Investing, Journal of Portfolio Management, Pensions & Investments, Senior Consultant, HorsesMouth and the IMCA Monitor, as well as contributed to and edited several books. Ron's most recently co-edited book is Hedge Funds: Definitive Strategies and Techniques (Wiley Finance).

Ron is also a member of several industry boards and committees, including the Investor/Consultant Subcommittee of the Global Investment Performance Standards (GIPS) Executive Committee, established by the CFA Institute. Formerly he served for nine years on the Investment Management Consultants Association (IMCA) Board of Directors.
